The basics

What a prefilled pod system actually is

A prefilled pod system is a vape kit that combines a rechargeable battery device with sealed prefilled pods that contain the e-liquid and coil as a single sealed unit. When the e-liquid in a pod runs out, you remove the empty pod and click in a fresh prefilled one. The device body itself stays with you indefinitely, recharged via USB-C between use.

This design is the direct successor to single-use disposable vapes, which were banned from sale across the UK on 1 June 2025 under the Tobacco and Vapes Act regulations. Disposables were one-piece sealed units that combined a non-removable battery with a non-removable e-liquid reservoir, and the entire device was discarded once either ran out. Prefilled pod systems keep the convenience of the disposable experience (no bottles, no coil changes, no fiddling) but separate the reusable parts from the replaceable parts, making the format fully UK-compliant.

Every TPD-compliant UK prefilled pod system follows the same basic specification: 2ml maximum pod capacity, 20mg/ml maximum nicotine salt strength, USB-C rechargeable battery, draw-activated firing, MHRA notification. Brands like Elf Bar, Lost Mary, SKE Crystal, IVG and Hayati all make prefilled pod kits to this specification, with different capacities, designs and flavour profiles.

The three main parts of a prefilled pod system

Part 1: The device body. Contains the rechargeable battery (typically 400-1000mAh), the inhale sensor and the LED indicator. Charges via USB-C. Reused indefinitely. Part 2: The prefilled pod. A small sealed unit containing 2ml of TPD-compliant e-liquid, a mesh coil and a cotton wick. Designed for single use until the e-liquid runs out, then replaced as a complete unit. Part 3 (some kits): The refill container. Higher-capacity kits like the Lost Mary BM6000 add a separate 10ml refill container that auto-fills the internal pod, giving 12ml total system capacity. The refill container is replaced separately from the pod itself.

How a prefilled pod system works in practice

When you take a draw, the inhale sensor detects airflow and powers up the coil in the pod. The coil heats the cotton wick saturated with e-liquid, producing vapour. The vapour travels through the mouthpiece and into your lungs. No buttons, no settings. The battery recharges via USB-C when needed, typically every 1-3 days depending on use. When the flavour fades or vapour weakens, the pod is empty: remove and replace with a fresh one. Some higher-capacity kits also include a refill container that needs to be replaced after several pod swaps.

Why prefilled pod systems replaced disposables

Three reasons. First, regulatory: the UK 1 June 2025 ban required vapes to be both rechargeable and refillable (via replaceable pods). Disposables failed both conditions. Prefilled pod kits comply with both. Second, environmental: a single device body reused over hundreds of charges replaces what would have been hundreds of single-use disposables. Material Focus estimated over 8 million disposables were thrown away weekly in the UK by January 2025. Prefilled pod kits dramatically reduce that volume. Third, cost: per puff, prefilled pod kits are typically much cheaper than the disposables they replaced because the reusable device body amortises across many pod swaps.

STRUCTURE

Device body + replaceable pods

Rechargeable USB-C battery in the body, sealed prefilled pods that swap when empty. Used together to replicate the disposable experience.

COMPLIANCE

Fully UK TPD-compliant

2ml max pod, 20mg/ml max nicotine, MHRA-notified, rechargeable and refillable. Legal across all four UK nations.

COST

Cheaper than daily disposables

Per puff, prefilled pod kits typically cost 50-80% less than the disposables they replaced. The device body amortises over hundreds of pod swaps.

GENUINE

Verify before you buy

Counterfeit prefilled pod kits exist, often with inconsistent fills and unsafe batteries. Always buy from a registered UK retailer with auth-code checks.

In practice

What switching from disposables to prefilled pods actually looks like

Since the 1 June 2025 disposable ban, our Omagh and Strabane stores have helped thousands of customers make the switch. Here is the practical framework we walk customers through, based on hundreds of daily conversations.

1

Pick a kit that matches your old disposable

If you used an Elf Bar 600 disposable, the Elf Bar 600 Pod Kit feels identical. Same for Crystal Bar to Crystal Pro 600 and Lost Mary BM600 to BM6000.

2

Buy a starter pack with spare pods

Get the device plus at least 2-3 replacement pods. That gets you 2-3 weeks of use without running out. Pods cost roughly £4-5 each.

3

Charge fully before first use

Devices ship 50% charged. Full charge takes 30-60 minutes via USB-C. Burnt taste from a fresh pod usually means low battery or skipped priming.

4

Recycle empty pods properly

Empty pods contain a coil and residual e-liquid. Take to a vape shop take-back (free at Just Vape) or council WEEE recycling. Never household waste.

For every major prefilled pod kit alongside refill pods, charging cables and accessories, the compliant prefilled pod vape kits at Just Vape covers Elf Bar, Lost Mary, SKE Crystal, IVG, Hayati and others. Same advice in store at Omagh and Strabane or online with free UK delivery over £50.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is a prefilled pod system?
A prefilled pod system is a vape kit with a rechargeable battery device and sealed prefilled e-liquid pods. When a pod runs out, you replace it with a fresh one. The device body stays with you indefinitely, recharged via USB-C between uses. This design replaced single-use disposable vapes after the 1 June 2025 UK ban.
How does a prefilled pod system actually work?
When you take a draw, an inhale sensor in the device powers up the coil inside the prefilled pod. The coil heats a cotton wick saturated with e-liquid, producing vapour that you inhale through the mouthpiece. No buttons or settings, just inhale to vape. When flavour fades, the pod is empty and gets swapped for a fresh one. The battery recharges via USB-C.
Why did prefilled pod systems replace disposables?
Three reasons. First, the UK 1 June 2025 ban required vapes to be both rechargeable and refillable; disposables met neither. Second, environmental: a reused device body replaces hundreds of single-use disposables, dramatically reducing waste. Third, cost: per puff, prefilled pod kits typically cost 50-80% less than the disposables they replaced because the device body amortises across many pod swaps.
Are prefilled pod systems the same as refillable kits?
No. Prefilled pod systems use sealed factory-filled pods that you swap as complete units. Refillable pod kits use refillable pods that you top up yourself with bottled e-liquid. Prefilled is simpler and cleaner; refillable is cheaper per ml and gives full flavour choice. Both are fully UK-compliant after the June 2025 ban.
How long do prefilled pods last?
Depends on the pod capacity and your vape pattern. A standard 2ml prefilled pod (Elf Bar 600, Crystal Pro 600, Lost Mary BM600 replacement) delivers around 600 puffs, typically 1-3 days for most users. Higher capacity systems like the Lost Mary BM6000 (12ml across pod plus refill container) deliver up to 6000 puffs and 10-40 days per pod kit. The BM10000 stretches even further.
